Cloud Migration Lock-In: A Risk to be Avoided

Supplier lock-in has been a major issue with decision makers for many years, and with good reason. Allowing your company to be overly subjugated to a specific supplier (often with little control of the situation) quickly turns into a monopolistic relationship. The script gets flipped, and rather than leveraging buyers power, you become the passive party, beholden to any changes in terms and conditions having little authority to stop it.

Every IT leader reading this now is overspending 30% to 60% on at least one of their strategic suppliers. Unfortunately, experience tells us that many are overspending on several. How can we know this with such certainty?  We’ve been seeing it now since 2002, and it’s the very reason we are thriving today. There are several factors that enable this culture of overspend to get traction inside organizations. Much of it is built on the good intentions of IT buyers simply working to execute their business plans with limited resources.  Exacerbating the problem, however, are the technology goliaths and their downstream ecosystems who spend vast sums of money to ensure their customers pay a premium for their services.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

In this article we explore the ways organizations unknowingly get consumed by an overspend culture and impede their own transformation efforts.

Staff Spotlight: Bob Geib

Celebrating his 11th anniversary here at NET(net) this August, Bob Geib's contributions to our team and Clients are too numerous list in a newsletter!  

Bob is selfless in his mentoring and coaching staff here at NET(net), but is also an invaluable resource to the Clients he works alongside, many of whom we've been teaming with for several years.
